Rhett Madsen

Family Tax Advisor

  • Why did you join TFO Phoenix?

I wanted to be a part of a team that aligned with my core values and had a great culture of collaboration and connectivity, and TFO provides that. Aligning myself with a great firm provides me the opportunity to grow and develop both professionally and personally in an environment that I truly enjoy working in.

  • What path led you to wealth management?

I love to see the whole financial picture. Starting my career in tax, I always felt I had a narrow view on an area I was deeply curious about. A career in wealth management provides that perspective. Working with families and being able to see and help with their personal taxes, investments, businesses, and wealth (both individually and generationally), and developing personal relationships with them, provides a wealth (no pun intended) of professional opportunities and an opportunity to learn so much about a field I am very interested in.

  • What has been your most rewarding career experience?

My most rewarding career experiences have been helping clients and families alleviate worries and stress about their tax situation. My goal of being a trusted advisor to clients and ensuring them that I have their financial and tax best interests at heart is what it’s all about.

  • What most excites you about your work?

No day is ever the same, and there is always something to learn and improve upon. To be able to solve problems in new and efficient ways while helping the client be in the best financial position is extremely rewarding. That, and working with some incredible people that I am honored to call my colleagues.

  • What do you enjoy most about your role at TFO Phoenix?

Working with such an incredible team of people and having the ability to constantly learn new things and enhance my technical and financial knowledge. Being encouraged to step up to any challenge and succeed, knowing I have an incredible amount of support, is great.

  • What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?

Marrying my incredible, beautiful wife. There’s no greater feeling than having a partner who you love, cherish, and can share the best of times with. It makes life just that much better.

  • What are some of your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are my parents and my wife. They have always pushed me to be greater and to achieve my goals, and I would not be where I am today without their love and support.

  • Why should families connect wealth and purpose?

Wealth is a tool that families can use to help achieve purpose. Having goals, passions, and a sense of direction in the form of purpose helps to guide families where they want to go financially and achieve their goals. Without purpose, the potential of wealth to positively impact the lives of families is severely limited.

  • Education and accreditations

Masters of Taxation – Arizona State University
B.S., Accounting – Northern Arizona University

  • What do you like to do outside of work? What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching sports, and watching movies.

  • What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?

It sounds cliché and something you hear at an early age, but treat others the way you want to be treated. Acts of kindness go a long way, and treating people with respect, kindness and trust leads to better, stronger relationships and a more fulfilled life.
