Maxwell Malouff, CPA

Family Tax Manager

  • What path led you to wealth management?

As an undergraduate student studying business at Arizona State University, I discovered a strong interest in accountancy upon taking the requisite intermediary accounting courses. As I neared the end of my undergraduate study, I decided to enroll in as many finance and accounting courses as possible, as my strong interest in the two subjects led me to pursue a rigorous course load. While taking these courses, a few different professors of mine had described the wealth management industry as an attractive career path for accountancy and finance students. I ultimately decided that I would follow the advice of these professors, and pursue wealth management companies for employment, as opposed to the vast majority of my peers, whom sought employment with the top four major public accounting firms.

  • Why did you join TFO Phoenix?

I joined TFO Phoenix because I believed the professional experience that I would receive would be invaluable to a career geared towards wealth management and professional tax services. This belief has proven true, as I have learned, and continue to learn at an unanticipated rate. At TFO, I feel my professional development has vastly exceeded my original expectations, for which I can give all credit to my peers and superiors, as they have created an environment extraordinarily conducive for such a result.

  • What most excites you about your work?

I really enjoy solving problems and trying to think outside the box. Tax code can seem pretty cut and dried to most, the rules are the rules. Learning to apply those rules and put them into context allows us to strategize and plan with our clients in order to maximize the potential benefits of each transaction. This is the interesting part of tax work, and also why having a tax advisor as part of the financial team can be extremely valuable.

  • What do you enjoy most about your role at TFO Phoenix?

I have found that I have been excited for every day of work at TFO Phoenix, even during the busy seasons, as each day yields an opportunity to learn or experience something new that will ultimately add to my professional development. Having the opportunity to learn and experience new things on a daily basis is a facet of work that I had not experienced until working for TFO Phoenix, and as such this is what excites me the most about my work at TFO.

  • What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?

Successfully passing the Uniform Certified Public Accounting exams. The amount of hard work and dedication necessary for this success has been unparalleled at this point in my life, and so it “takes the cake”, as they say.

  • Education and accreditations

B.S. Accountancy – Arizona State University, 2015
Certified Public Accountant

  • What do you like to do outside of work? What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and my twin brother, Vinny. I also enjoy spending time outdoors, camping, hiking and playing sports with friends and relatives. I grew up in Prescott, Arizona, which is where my parents live, so I like to split my weekends between there and Phoenix.

  • What are some of your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are my parents and my older brother, Sam. My father was a CPA for many years, and inspired me to follow in his footsteps. I am also greatly influenced by the individuals that I work with, as together I believe they form a fantastic team that I feel very fortunate to be a part of.w
